At Epoxy & Sealing Systems, Inc., we believe in doing things the right way, even if it means a slightly higher cost. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our meticulous application process, as shown in the cross-section image to the right. Starting with your concrete base, we apply a layer of epoxy for superior bonding (binds to concrete better than Polyurea/Polyaspartic), followed by a evenly broadcasted flake layer for texture and durability. Finally, we seal it with a polyurea/polyaspartic top coat, known for its hardness and UV resistance to prevent yellowing where exposed to sunlight.

This method ensures the highest end results providing a long-lasting, chip-resistant finish. Rest assured that when working with Epoxy & Sealing Systems that we never compromise on quality to cut costs.

Polyurea Layer

The last stage involves applying a clear coat that gives your floor a stunning, glossy finish and enhances its color. For this, we utilize Polyaspartic Urethane, known for its exceptional resistance to chemicals and stains, and its ability to withstand impact and wear, and UV resistant properties, ensuring your floor's protection for the long term.

Flake Layer

The decorative flake (or metallic finish) you’ve chosen is then evenly broadcast into the wet epoxy layer. As the epoxy begins to cure, the aggregate you've chosen will becomes permanently embedded, creating a durable bond with the underlying concrete.

Epoxy Base Layer

The epoxy base coat is used over a Polyurea/Polyaspartic coat because it binds to the concrete better. This is important in achieving the best and most durable body. The base coat is applied a single sweeping, thick layer immediately prior to the flake layer being added.

Concrete

Your concrete gets prepped with a muriatic acid wash and a diamond grind from a diamond grinding machine. All cracks and blemishes are repaired, including the filling of the expansion and control joints to produce a seamless finish.

In contrast to our approach, many companies opt for Epoxy as the top layer, likely due to its lower cost or lack of expertise. This method, however, can lead to issues like yellowing, especially in sun-exposed areas, as Epoxy is not as UV-resistant. Moreover, it's not as hard as Polyurea or Polyaspartic coatings, making it less durable. We've seen some companies even combine the base coat, flakes, and top coat in a single layer application, skip the cleaning and grinding prep, and a host of other bad practices.  While this may be fine for temporary situations, flips, or other scenarios where cost is a priority over quality, this is not advisable and not how things are done by us.

Epoxy Top Layer

Applying an Epoxy top layer is not a great idea, but unbelievably common amongst a lot of companies out there. We have to believe it is a cost cutting measure, because you don't have to be doing this long to learn this is not the best idea. Epoxy yellows in the sun and is not as hard as it's Poly counterpart.

Flake Layer

Too little, too much, poor quality, uneven distribution, etc. All very common issues we see when redoing the work of another company. This is an art, and we are artisans!

Epoxy Base Layer

The epoxy base coat gets combined with the top coat, swapped with Poly coats by up-charging service providers, and a host of other unintelligent or shady practices. Most because they are trying to make more money or are simply not experienced enough to know the proper methods.

Concrete

Unprepped concrete surfaces are very common with bad service providers. They argue "you can't tell once it is done anyway", and while visually that may be true, the binding process suffers and the surface will likely peel and chip.

An even and thick layer of epoxy base coat is applied in one sweeping motion binding to the concrete surface below.

Aggregate Application

The flake or aggregate of your choice is broadcast evenly across the entire surface while the epoxy base coat is still wet.

Top Clear Coat

A UV-resistant polyurea top clear coat is applied providing the hardness and durability you want from your new floor.
